The establishment
of the Sports Office at the take off of Adamawa State University is meant
at providing and promoting school spirit and a good feeling of brotherhood
amongst students by enhancing the tone of the University through appropriate
inter-relationships.
The projected requirements for sports development in ADSU are being put in
place by the University administration and is gradually yielding. The establishment
of a full fledged sports office, the formation of sports committees, the renovations
and constructions of basic sports facilities and the procurement of sports
equipments have laid a solid foundation.
The Sports office which is in charge of planning, organizing, controlling,
coordinating, budgeting and procuring sports equipment has made a large stride
in the right direction in its sports programme.
At its take off, the Sports office, started with Football, Volleyball, Basketball,
Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Handball and indoor games like Chess, Scrabble
and Draught.
The University has officially registered with the Nigeria University Games
Association (NUGA) qualifying it to participate in all Nigerian universities
organized games at both national and international levels.
Between March
2003 and August 2003 sports stimulation through organized competitions have
been conducted thus:
1. The pioneer
Football match by Pre-degree football Team Vs Remedial football which ended
1-2.
2. Staff Football
Team Vs Students Team. Students won 4-1
3. Inter Faculty
Football finals was played between Pre-degree Team and Faculty of Social and
Management Sciences. The match ended 0-2 in favour of Faculty of Social and
Management Sciences.
4. ADSU students
Football Team Vs Shuware Football Team which ended 1-1.
5. Senior Staff
Football Team Vs Junior Staff Football Team which ended 1-0 in favour of senior
staff team.
6. ADSU Staff
Football Team Vs Students Team was 0-3 in favour of Students Team.
7. ADSU Staff
Football Team Vs Federal Poly Staff Team (played away) ended one - one.
8. ADSU Students
Basketball Team Vs New Castle Basketball Team, Mubi ended 34-32 in favour
of ADSU team.
